Character Deficit : What we need todasy is "Zero Tolerance against Corruption".

As a true Indian I felt depressed. There hardly any month with no scam news, 2-G Spectrum Scam, Commonwealth games scam, Aadrash society scam, Karnataka mining scam, export of non-basmati rice to African countries the list can go on and on endlessly.

Lack of dignity, integrity, patriotism, responsibility towards people, responsibility towards nation, willingness to bring change, future vision, ethical values, control over population to sustain enough jobs for available population, faster governance and law binding etc in character of Indian politicians bringing the whole nation down.

We need to wake up from our fantasized dream of leading the World and have to take stand against corruption.

When the common man is corrupted, the bureaucracy, political leaders, employees and professionals all are corrupted. Government performance is mirror image of its own people character.
Until and unless the common man cuts all roots of corruption with aggression at the base with self dignity, integrity and self respect in mind, devil of corruption cannot be killed. Again and again it will come back to hunt us.
What we need today is “Zero Tolerance against Corruption “.

Relationship between Character and Corruption : Plotted on Graph

Recently Yeddyurappa decided politely to vacant his chair after submission of voluminous report by lokayukta Santosh Hegde, where he accused him for illegal mining in state.

According to the media report estimates the loss to the State exchequer on account of illegal mining at Rs. 1,827 crore over a period of 14 months between April 2009 and May 2010 and report run over 4000 to 5000 pages, but still with the faith in god Yeddyurappa is absolutely sure about his clean Character.

This forces me to think relationship between Character and Corruption. I plotted corruption on X-axis and Character on Y-axis. The low is your corruption level, high you are in Character and high you are in corruption, Low is your Character. Character and Corruption shares an Inverse relationship between them.

In now days it’s absolutely impossible to find a Character with zero corruption and if we do I am sure he is replica of none other than Prabhu Shri Ram.

Every Politician should be forced to undergo a Character Development program after he get elected. The program should run for at least four months with lessons from your glorious Hindu mythology, which will explain them the Characters of God and Goddess they worship. What values they should hold and follow and let it flow through their followers. It should involve the life storied of corrupted people and where it end.

A better implemented and govern Character Development programme can help in reduction of Corruption (Hope so).

Character Vs Personality : Which one you have? And which one you want to Develop or Adopt?

Which one you have? And which one you want to Develop or Adopt?

I am completely against the word Personality Development. Now days there are different institutes offering such courses, even crash courses so called personality Development.

Personality is what you want to show to people, its how you behave in public and impress them and interact with the world. Personality creates a barrier between the individuals social and private behavior. There will be always a big gap between how he act in public and how he behave in his private life.

Character defines the individual’s social and public life. He also always behaves and never acts. There will be zero difference between his private and personal life. The values and principles what he believes in he adopt in his life. He remains true to himself and the society.

Now a days we always see number of institutes offering courses on personality development but no one talk about Character development. That’s the reason there is corruption, lack of inclusive growth, large gap between the poor and rich, dying ethic values, unaccountable black money, blood sucking politician community mushrooming every part of world, risk of terrorism, unbreakable friendship of mafia and police department etc.

We never say I would like to develop my personality like Shri Chatrapti Shivaji Maharaj or Prabhu Shri Ram or Bhagawan Shri Krishna; in fact we want to live those characters. Because hardly they had any private life and whatever they had it never conflicts with their social life.

What we need today is development of Character not Personality.

Death

More easy than trying to sleep” a dialogue from the latest Harry Potter last series The Deathly Hallows part 2.

What will you do when you know exactly how much time you have, a week, a month or a year in your hand before you die with defected part of your body slowly showing disrespect towards normal functioning?

Will you convert your Shameless, skeptic, critical smile (Showing glittering golden teeth with sliver patches for no reason) into beautiful appreciated smile (Right from the bottom of heart)?

Will you call back one of you forgotten best friend with whom you had fight for no reason and say sorry?

Will you try to spend every single second of your remaining time with the person you loved most?

Will you try to make your parent’s brother’s sisters and relatives happy with fulfilling their every single request?

Will try to learn a musical instrument, a foreign language or how to drive a car which you want to for a long time?

Will you go on long vacation all by yourself to your dream destination?

Will you start a journey towards searching for the real meaning of life and truth?

Or will you try to search more into yourself which eventually take you closer towards creator of the universe by self realization?

What will you do?

Charismatic leadership

People with natural enthusiasm, positive energy and ability to encourage and inspires others are called as Charismatic leaders. These types of leaders have very high amount of natural positive energy which they can guide and control towards defined direction for desired results.

Followers feel more secure and ready to work with these leaders. They hardly get tired of work and almost never complain as they look up to their leaders. Followers may loose their enthusiasm and wish to work if a charismatic leader stops to lead them or leave the team while working on short term goals in organization.

Sometimes people born with charisma like Rahul Gandhi or Inborn King but most of the times people earn their own charisma for example sport star like Captain of Indian Cricket team MahanidraSing Dhoni had earn his own charisma through years of hard work. Not necessary people with charisma turn into leaders; Sachin Tendulkar, the God of Indian Cricket team, is one of the most successful batsman’s ever but he failed to capitalize over his charisma and hence never turns up into a successful leader.

Unethical Charismatic leadership is like double edged sword, leaders like Hitler can force the whole world for a war while on the other hand Ethical Charismatic leaders like Mahatma Gandhi can bring the whole nation together for freedom.

High level of self confident, great communication skill and ability to engage people with them can make oneself a great Charismatic leader.

Transactional leadership

Transactional leadership asks leaders to give rewards or recognitions to his followers. This theory thinks that work can be only done through reward system.

It is more about management than leadership. Leaders can punish followers for not achieving goals and not meeting the desired results. Followers are bound to the rules and regulations led by organization or leader and they accept it full heartily.

This may successfully work for short term goals and effectively used in many team and organizations but sometimes can work for long term goals as well which will depend upon effective implementation of leader. Supervisors’ and Team leaders use this type of leadership in organizations.

Transformational Leadership

Transformational Leadership

In today’s modern world different types of leadership models had been put forward out of which Transformational leadership is one of the most important.

The word “Transform” itself explains the meaning of this theory. These type of leaders are highly energetic with high level of enthusiasm, they always focus on transforming their qualities, vision, strength, into their followers or the into the organization by continuously setting up examples through their behavior.

This term was first introduced by James MacGregor Burns in 1978. According to Burns, transformational leadership can be seen when “leaders and followers make each other to advance to a higher level of moral and motivation." Through the strength of their vision and personality, transformational leaders are able to inspire followers to change expectations, perceptions and motivations to work towards common goals.

Over the period of time in 1985 another researcher, Bernard M. Bass extends Burns works and proposed that transformation can be measured in terms of influence and overall change in personality of followers. The followers of these leaders look up to their leader as an idol to worship for lifetime. They admire and respect him and always show their loyalty towards their leader.

Brass proposed four different aspects of Transformational Leadership:

1)       Inspirational Motivation: Transformational leaders provides clear goal with positive attitude to their followers. Inspiration and motivation are distinctive things. Motivation may be short term while Inspiration is long term. Motivation concentrates on single thing while Inspiration concentrates on overall transformation. Inspiration is next step of Motivation.

2)
Individualized Consideration:  Transformational leaders understand needs and desire of their followers by continuous open conversation and supportive relationship. These result in fast improvement in understating of followers. Every human being is hungry for the feeling of importance and consideration and these leaders fulfill their psychological need.

3)      Intellectual Stimulation: Transformational leaders always challenges establish assumptions and forced their followers to think in different ways than usual way of thinking. This result in generation of new ideas and alternative solutions .In a way we can say that they force their followers to think laterally.

4)      Idealized Influence: Transformational leaders put themselves as an role model by ethical behavior, continues aspiration, motivation and setting up the examples of what they talk.

Through this process transformation triggers very fast as followers always look up to their leader to follow.

If you go back into the history and try to find out the examples for transformational leadership, the most profound examples you can found are in the Hindu mythology. In the ancient culture of Mahabharata when young son of a King lives in Ashram for more than 10 years by leaving behind their lavish life for the purpose of seeking knowledge and becoming expert in their respected interested filed. Guru(Leader) who is supposed to be expert  make sure that his student (follower) acquire the every bit of wisdom he had and capitalize over it through his own self-belief and charisma and become Legend. Every Guru always wished that one day he should get defeated from his student which gives him the satisfaction of his job fulfillment and happiness for his student success.
